The year 2012 saw the emergence of a number of young players who are predicted to shine as the upcoming football stars of 2013. While there are many excellent young talents out there and it is impossible to predict which ones will make it all the way to the top, there are some who seem like it is their destiny to be amongst the greats, starting in the coming year.

1. Marco Verratti (Paris Saint-Germain)

Marco Verratti is already making a name for himself both in the French league and in the Champions League. At just 20 years old, the midfield star is getting better all the time and in 2013, the European competition will continue to give him the chance to prove his worth against some of the best players out there

2. Koke (Atletico Madrid)

Another Spaniard who looks like he will be a break-out star in 2013 is the central midfielder Koke. The 20 year old has already helped his club Atletico Madrid to stay in contention for the Spanish League against the two giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, and he has represented is country at all youth levels since becoming a professional at the club in 2008.

3. Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace)

Currently at Crystal Palace, Wilfried Zaha looks set to be one of the most sought after signatures in January 2013, when the bigger clubs in the Premiership will all be trying to land the starlet. At 20 years old, the winger has recently earned his first international cap and is considered to be one of England’s genuine talents for the future.

4. Granit Xhaka (Borussia Monchengladbach)

Granit Xhaka of Borussia Monchengladbach is a 20 year old all-round midfielder whose tireless performances are quickly earning him a reputation as a rising star. From defensive duties to defence splitting passes, Granit Xhaka can do it all and is defiantly one to watch in 2013.

5. Kevin De Bruyne (Werder Bremen)

So far this season, the 21 year old attacking midfielder has notched up four goals in twelve games for Werder Bremen and looks set to build on that in the coming year. Kevin De Bruyne is on loan from Premiership outfit Chelsea who will be encouraged by the form the young Belgian is seeing.

6. Kurt Zouma (Saint-Etienne)

The 18 year old centre back Kurt Zouma of Saint-Etienne has already forced his way into the first team at his club and many predict a big move for the Frenchman in the not-too distant future. His strength and skill were recognised by Saint-Etienne from an early age who brought him to the club when he was just 15 and out playing all others in his age group.

7. Suso (Liverpool)

Aged just 19, Suso is the best of a number of youngsters who will likely get their chance in the Liverpool senior squad in 2013. The Spanish attacking midfielder is being hailed for his vision and passing abilities and may have a great year under manager Brendan Rodgers, who is known for favouring young players.
