Base Jumping

If you thought rugby was a dangerous sport due to its heavy tackles, then you are yet to find out what the world of sports has to offer. There are so many dangerous sports out there that you probably never knew about and if you did, maybe you do not know how dangerous they are.

Here is a quick look at 5 of the world’s most dangerous sports and the main factors that make them dangerous.

1. Base Jumping

If you stare into the sky and notice an object descending at a very high speed, it might be a plane, a bird or most probably, a base jumper. This type of sport is all about jumping from a tall building, bridge or cliff through the help of a parachute.

The most dangerous part of this sport is the fact that if the parachute develops any technical problem, the jumper will have to land on the ground with a thud. According to a recent study, around 5 to 15 people die yearly due to this dangerous sport.

2. Cave Diving

This sport requires the participant to dive into the water, towards a cave opening. Some of associated risks include low visibility, poor lighting and air loss. In fact, with this sport, you cannot shoot upwards without analysing your aquatic environment because you might smash your head unexpectedly on the roof of a cave.

There have been hundreds of death reports caused by cave diving and according to these reports, most of the victims are technical divers and instructors, therefore proving that nobody is safe when participating in this sport.

3. Big Wave Surfing

So many people think that big wave surfing is as simple as the ordinary surfing. In fact, the chances of drowning or being covered by the rising tides are very high. Some death reports also reveal that the victims of big wave surfing smashed their heads against rocks in the sea while some of them lost their footing, thus leading to slip-offs. As exciting as it may sound, this sport offers dangerous challenges that do not spare both professionals and beginners.

4. Street Lugging

It is impossible to identify the world’s most dangerous sports without mentioning street lugging. This sport was invented by some kids in California and from the look of things, it is not the type of sport that you would wish to take part in, let alone watching it. The participants are required to lie down on their skateboards, their stomach facing upwards as they race down the street.

You do not have to be a professional sports analyst to realise the associated risks of street lugging. First of all, it is very hard for drivers in trucks to notice the participants of this sport and this means that they can be crushed anytime. So, as you take part in this sport thinking that the drivers will avoid you when they see you riding down the street, chances are very high that they did not even notice you, therefore no need to avoid you at the first place.

5. Bull Riding

You have probably watched it on reality television but maybe you do not know how risky it can be to take part in bull riding. The most dangerous aspect of this sport is that even as you land on a soft ground, you will have to worry more about your broken jaws, collarbone, arms, legs or ribs. If that does not happen, you do not have to take a sigh of relief yet because the furious bull will not forgive you for raising his temper.
