They started the season with a hard-fought 1-0 win at home over Bochum. They dropped points for the first time when they were held to a goalless draw away at newly-promoted St. Pauli. They lost in the league for the first time as they were beaten 2-1 by rivals Borussia Dortmund. Another 4-3 loss at Hoffenheim followed before they were shocked at home by Bremen to hand them back-to-back defeats in the league. RB then won their next two games against Kiel and Frankfurt before a 5-1 thumping at the hands of Bayern Munich in their most recent game at the time of writing.
In the UEFA champions League, they have had a poor start to the season. As of the time of writing, they are 34th in the 36-team competition as they have lost all six games in the competition. They have scored six times and have conceded 13 goals. Their last match was a 3-2 home defeat at the hands of Aston Villa on Matchday 6 of the UEFA Champions League.
Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund changed managers in the summer, with former Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin replacing Edin Terzin, who had been in charge for the previous two seasons. The Black and Yellows also lost Jadon Sancho after the expiration of his loan deal.
It has been a decent start for Sahin, who is having his managerial debut in a top five league, after coaching Turkish Super Lig side Antalyaspor between 2021 and 2023. As stated earlier, Sahin had a great start to life after defeating Frankfurt I’m the reverse fixture. They then played out a goalless draw with Werder Bremen in their next game.
Dortmund bounced back to winning ways with a 4-2 win against strugglers Heidenheim at the Signal Iduna Park. Unfortunately for them, they failed to take that performance to their next game against Stuttgart as they fell to an embarrassing 5-1 defeat.
The Black and Yellows won their next game against Bochum but lost to Union Berlin in the game that followed. Since then, Borussia Dortmund have picked up wins against St. Pauli, RB Leipzig, and Freiburg, but they lost to Mainz and Augsburg.
Dortmund have also had some shining stars like Serhou Guirassy, who has six goals and one assist in the Bundesliga. Former Manchester City man Gittens has impressed with his ability to wriggle past defenders. He also has three goals and three assists to show.
Borussia Dortmund won the reverse fixture and the home side will be looking to get the better of their visitors in this encounter. Leipzig have won the past three Bundesliga games they have hosted between them and that should be enough motivation going into the game.
